Crusade Thermo info

Thermotreatment "Thermal treatment" through which, wood is heat treated in a manner which brings it to resemble old and naturally aged wood. The heat treatment method has been known for hundreds of years around the world but not in an industrial scale.

When computer technology became available the heat treatment could be developed to an industrial process. In the heat treatment process the wood is heated up to 170-230 degrees centigrade. At temperatures over 150 degrees many of the physical and chemical features of the wood change. When the treatment temperature is raised to over 200 degrees the significance of the changes are emphasized.

Changes caused by the treatment:
* moisture content is reduced
* thermal insulation capacityimproves by 30 %
* surface hardness increases
* moisture absorbency decreases from 30 % to 90 %
* resistance to decay improves
* darker colour throughout the wood
* rigidity increases by 20 %
* the wood "ages" as though it was centuries old * the wood becomes lighter
* the tonal features are essentially improved.
Many of the qualities that are important for the wood construction industry are improved through heat treatment. But the most important feature and the future of the heat treatment is ecology. By improving the qualities and features of European wood species we can decrease the use of EXOTIC WOODS ! The totally additive free "Thermotimber"( heat treated wood ) offers endless possibilities for design and environmental friendly, structurally novel wood products. The Thermotimber is optionally available in Crusade Signature, Courage, Cloudburst, C-Club and Claudia models.
